Literary Criticism
This article discusses how losing a loved one can dramatically change the lives of the people close to the deceased. For some loved ones surviving and completing everyday tasks even becomes too difficult to do. To feel the loss and grieve losing someone close to you it requires empathy. In the novel, Strangers on a Train, where two men swap murders of close loved ones. The fact that Bruno is able to create a plan to get rid of his father, and Guy’s ex-wife shows the lack of empathy and hints at a lack of sanity: a mental disorder. Bruno is not psychologically stable and drags Guy into his mess, but Guy is not even able to stick up or voice his own opinion hinting at his struggle with a lost identity. Guy does seem distraught to an extent that Mariam was murdered, but he never reported Guy for what he did; and Guy fell through on his part in completing the murder for Bruno.
